Prof. Dr. F. Zwarts

Frans Zwarts (Den Haag, 1949) is rector magnificus at the University of Groningen since september 1^st 2002. He studied General Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam (1973, cum laude) en got his PhD at the University of Groningen (1986, cum laude) , his paper titled: Categoriale grammatica en algebraïsche semantiek; een onderzoek naar negatie en polariteit in het Nederlands. In 1987 Zwarts became professor of Dutch Linguistics in Groningen. He was scientific director of the graduate school Behavioral & Cognitive Neurosciences (BCN) from 1999 until his instatement as rector magnificus. Zwarts is member of the National Steering Group Dyslexia (NWO) and member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW).
