SCIENCE UP THE WORLD 15TH INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CONGRESS OF MEDICAL SCIENCES JUNE 3RD - 6TH 2008

IRF Application Guide

Joining a group of weathered scientists in one of the specialised research institutes of the UMCG is the perfect opportunity: the ISCOMS Fellowship allows you to gain a special insight into a research field in another country. It also allows you to obtain more knowledge and expertise in your area of interest. In these two weeks you might even gain a taste for Groningen as a centre for academic achievement and scientific fervour.

The IRFs are only available to presenting participants of our congress. The IRF projects will take place from June 9th till June 20nd this year, two weeks directly following the ISCOMS congress. The specific projects for the 2008 IRF's are available!

After all have applied for the IRF projects, a selection procedure will take place. The Research institutes and the ISCOMS organisation will select the participants on the basis of their application.

If you are interested in participating in one of these projects, you are hereby cordially invited to apply. You can simply do this on the website. We kindly ask you to attach all the following along with your application:

  • Curriculum Vitae (with accurate timeline/dates).
  • Letter of motivation for your specific project (also state, if necessary, a second choice) – why do you want to participate with an IRF. Word limit: 400
  • Letter of Recommendation from you supervisor.
  • Please fill in a short questionnaire that you can copy from here

  • Any or all your previous abstracts from earlier work; it is not mandatory, but is informative about your area of interest. This you can send us via email, under the subject 'IRF application'.

The extra information from the questionnaire and previous abstracts is required simply because the research institutes and ourselves can then better evaluate any skills and expertise that you have gathered till now. Your IRF supervisor will therefore be able to adequately assess what you can still learn and see while you are in the Netherlands. It does not mean that you will not be selected if this is your first abstract, or if your answers are limited in the questionnaire.

You can apply when you confirm your attendance to the ISCOMS congress. You can do this only once, so pay attention! You can select that you would like to do an IRF; then you can attach the items mentioned above.

Important !! Due to certain differences in information provided on the website and what one can fill in during the application proces, here is some extra information: When asked to fill in your 'resume' on the website, it means your Curriculum Vitae (a document which lists your personal information, education, work experience, other qualifications, etc). Next it will ask you to fill in your 'request', which is essentially your 'letter of motivation'. Please keep the word limit in mind. We then kindly ask you to provide us with a letter of recommendation and an answered questionnaire via email (explicitly mentioning your name, user id,etc).

Within 3 weeks after the deadline, we will contact you about the results of your application. There can unfortunately be no correspondence about the selection procedure.

Good luck and we are looking forward to receiving your IRF application!
