Matthew Kirkman
My name is Matthew Kirkman and I am a fourth year medical student from Newcastle University. I presented as a plenary presenter at the 2007 ISCOMS which was one of the most exciting yet nerve-wracking moments of my life! It is an absolute honour to be an Ambassador for ISCOMS, one of the greatest student conferences in the world. The meeting point, University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG), is breathtaking - there is certainly no hospital quite like it in the UK. This provides a stunning backdrop to a great congress, which is extremely well organised by the ISCOMS committee. The committee also ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable time in Groningen through a range of great social events.ISCOMS was one of the best moments of my life; meeting other students from all
over the world, experiencing Dutch culture, and being exposed to the vast range of cutting-edge research being conducted by other students from all corners of the globe. I knew a lot of people would be attending, but did not realise it would be around 400 - something I only realised when I stepped up to present! This number of attendees is a testament to the quality of the congress. The opportunities to network and make contacts with other medical students is limitless. I hope, as an Ambassador, to be part of the team that ensures the continued global recognition of the quality of ISCOMS. I guarantee anyone that attending ISCOMS will be one of the most memorable moments of your life - I know for sure that I will never forget it.
