Workshop: Antidepressants: how do they work if they work
Antidepressants are discovered by chance in the early fifties of the 20th century. Since then many new antidepressants are developed and introduced. Antidepressants represent a billion-market. However from time to time clinicians serious doubt the efficacy of these compounds. Prof Ben Westerink (dept of Pharmacy, University of Groningen) is a pharmacologist who observed (and also contributed to) during 30 years the development of centrally acting drugs. He will give some comments on the mechanism of action of antidepressants and related medicins
